Workshop and Study Visit in Brussels Belgium, EC Justice Program Project Strenghtening multidisciplinary cooperation to ensure an efective referral, assistance, rights protection for victims of human trafficking

A workshop & study visit was organized in Brussels Belgium between 25-26 April 2017 as part of the transnational project Strenghtening multidisciplinary cooperation to ensure an efective referral, assistance, rights protection for victims of human trafficking, financed by the European Commission, Justice Program JUST/2015/JACC/AG/VICT/9221.

The project is coordinated by the Romanian organization, Association Pro Refugiu, in partnership with Caritas International Belgium, Scandinavian Human Rights Lawyers Sweden, Association Trabe Iniciativas para la Economia Social y Solidaria Spain, Center for the Study of Democracy Bulgaria. The project benefits from the support of multiple associate partners from Romania (National Institute for Magistracy, Bucharest Bar, National College of Social Workers), Sweden (Uppsala University Center for Research on Addiction U-FOLD and  Hela Manniskan i Malmö Organization), Spain (General Prosecutor Office -Immigration Department), Bulgaria (National Legal Aid Bureau).

Through an interactive approach, lawyers, prosecutors police officers, social workers, psychologists from Belgium, Romania, Bulgaria, Spain, Sweden, were able to dicuss on the protection of THB victims’ rights, the necessity of a sustainable prosecutors-police cooperation in origin and destination countries, judicial proceedings in domestic and cross-border cases, assistance services, the situation of minor victims, improve multi-disciplinary cooperation. The organizer of the event, Caritas International Belgium, facilitated the presence of important stakeholders with competencies in fight against human trafficking, justice system such as: Belgium Justice Department Organized Crime Cell Service THB; Ministry of Justice; Directorate General Social Inspection ECOSOC, Immigration Office, Public Prosecutor Office, THB Department Federal Judicial Police, Independent National Rapporteur (Myria), Pag-Asa organization, Payoke organization. The plenary sessions alternated with the experts round-tables, questions & answers sessions allowing participants to exchange better ideea, practices related to justice system and other additional fields as the social &health ones.
